Good = Range 1 and a 1/2 octave's, scales to 3 flats and sharps (Major, minor, dom 7th, dorian)

Excellent = Range 2 octaves, scales to 4 flats and sharps (as above plus Aeolian, dom bop, maj bop scales)

Good = read music in jazz band or concert band, can read a chord chart, not really sure about what the chords mean. AMEB 5 and up.

Excellent = read jazz in jazz band or play high level classical, can read and understand chords on chord charts. CM7, Dmin7 (b5) etc...

Improv 2 - Have tried improvising but don't understand chord symbols or don't know what notes to choose

Improv 3 - Understand chord symbols (C7 = C, E, G, Bb etc) but need to know more about how I use them to improvise.

Improv 4 - Understand chord symbols and know some scale choices but want to know more

Improv 5 - Understand advanced chord symbols (C7(#11b9)and know most modes and how to use them to improvise with. Want to go further in my understanding of advanced improvisation techniques.
